What Do You See?

Often times in this walk we can get a little weary because things don’t go our way or because what we know (or someone tells us) should be at the moment we think it should it isn’t. Often times we get so weary that we decide to give up. We decide to stop pressing because we have been for so long and it seems like there is no end. My question is why stop pushing, why stop going after it? Allow me to tell you about the servant of Elijah in the 18th chapter of 1st Kings starting at verse 41. The background of this story is the prophet Elijah had spoken word of a drought over the land and said it would not rain until he gave word that it would.
Now sometime way down the line Elijah after having obtained his latest God-given victory went up to the top of Mt. Carmel to pray. As he was praying he turned to his servant and said, “Go up now, look toward the sea for I hear the sound of the abundance of rain”. The servant went and saw nothing and came back and gave the report. Elijah knowing what he heard didn’t get discouraged he said go again. This exchange happened 7 times, but on the 7th time the servant came back to Elijah and said “there is a cloud rising out of the sea about the size of a man’s hand.” This cloud represented the rain that was getting ready to come. Elijah commanded his servant to basically start packing up and get off the mountain and do it quickly before the rain stops him.
Again, my focus is on the servant because I can imagine him being told to go look for something he just can’t see. The first time I bet he had great zeal and went out anxiously awaiting for the sign of what the man of God spoke. When it didn’t happen and was told to go back, I can imagine he thought to himself maybe I missed something, but again nothing. I can imagine each time he was told to go back and look and he saw nothing his faith in the word given may have been shaken to the point of saying it’s not going to happen. I know what I am hearing but it’s just not there. I know what God is saying but there is no evidence of the manifestation. I can imagine he began to feel a little silly walking out over and over and over and over and staring toward the sea.
Isn’t that kind of how we feel at times? God spoke something to us, there is something we know we are called to do, there is something we know is down inside us but there is no evidence yet of it coming forth. Each time we step out and take a step in faith that doesn’t turn out, discouragement and doubt try to creep up. But much like Elijah I have to ask you, “What do you see”? That question every time you don’t see should continue in your head, what do you see? Let it ring in your spirit, what do you see? The reason that question should continue to resound, the reason I ask you as Elijah did is this. Every time the servant came back and told him what he saw, I can imagine Elijah’s confidence growing stronger even as his servant’s may have grown weaker. I ask you because someone needs to continue to speak faith in your ear and remind you that God is not a man that He should lie, if He said it He’s going to do it count on it being done.
Elijah continually asking the servant what he saw was always followed by a go back again look again. Tell me where your faith is and I will tell you keep striving. Tell me you can’t and I will keep telling you you can. Tell me it’s impossible and I will tell you with God nothing is impossible. Even the word impossible doesn’t believe itself for it says it in the word impossible (I’m-possible). If the word itself is trying to tell you how possible it is then why think other wise. Go back and tell me what you see. Go back and tell me what you see. Go back and tell me what you see. Eventually you’ll keep pushing and you will see a cloud about the size of a man’s hand (the guiding hand of God, bringing in it the promise made to you) coming from now where and headed your way. Once you do, be like Elijah’s servant and go get in place to receive what God has promised you. Friends he won’t fail you, He won’t let you down. No matter what the situation is, God is able.  I didn’t mean to preach in today’s post but I need this for myself as well. Keep looking, keep looking and tell me what do you see?  God said it and it shall come to pass. Don’t get discouraged because it doesn’t look good now. I know it looks dry and unfruitful but keep looking. Look for the promise it’s on the way. For I see a cloud the size of a man’s hand and it is signaling the abundance of rain in your life. Now the question is, what do you see?
