Compassion Mercy Love

Let’s talk compassion today. I read an article in which I won’t detail because it will draw up feelings from most readers that will most likely take away from the message I am trying to get across. So, what is compassion or mercy? Compassion is defined as a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering. One of the synonyms of compassion is mercy. Mercy is defined as compassionate or kindly forbearance shown toward an offender, an enemy, or other person in one's power; compassion, pity, or benevolence. Why do I bring this up today? I bring this up because I am noticing that we as believers are losing our compassion and mercy for those who need it. We are trying to determine who deserves it and who doesn’t and we draw all of these random lines that have no clear definition to why we severely punish one and let the other go. Christ on the cross asked God to forgive them all. In I Peter 3:8, 9 we are charged to have compassion on all people, yet we don’t. How can we say that we are disciples of Christ and don’t show love, mercy, compassion? I think we need to take a look at what we believe and line it up with Jesus. There are many who won’t believe me especially those who know the article that sparked this but it’s not a matter of believing me or not it’s a matter of do you believe the word of God. Do you believe what is contained and instructed to do in its pages?  We were afforded mercy and compassion and love when we didn’t deserve it. Some of us were out living in sin willfully but God’s grace and mercy, compassion and love kept us from being dealt the hand of judgment long enough for us to come to Him and repent and try to live better and even since that time we have screwed up time and again but still have been afforded compassion. Who are we to deny anyone that same compassion and mercy and love that was extended to us? I close out my shortest post yet because I am angry thinking about it by saying this: It’s time to stop being hypocrites and truly learn how to Grow in God’s Grace and Abide in His Love.  If you have any questions or comments please feel free to email me at jesse.jones@highpraiseministries.com.
